IRCC Implementing restrictions on Spousal Work Permits:

Effective January 21,2025

Spouses of students will only be able to get a work permit if studying a Master’s of 16 months or more, a PHD or studying in a specific field. Details of specific field will be announced later.

Spouses of workers will need to have the Principal Worker working in a TEER 0 or 1 position, or certain TEER 2 or 3 roles. List of occupations will be realized later.

Foreign worker must also have at least 16 months remaining on their work permit at the time when their spouse applies for the Open Work Permit.

All applications submitted before January 21,2025 at 5:00 ITC will be processed under the previous eligibility criteria.
